# Claude Code's weekly cap falls 17 percent after a temporary bump

If you have been running Claude Code hard this month, the weekly cap you feel today is not the cap you should plan around. Bleeping Computer reported on August 29, 2026 that Anthropic will permanently raise Claude Code's standard weekly limits by 25 percent starting September 14\. That raise covers Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. It sounds like more room. Compared with what you can spend right now, it is a cut.

Here is why both sentences can be true. A temporary 50 percent increase is in place until September 14, which means through September 13\. Versus those temporary limits, the new permanent number is about a 17 percent reduction. The arithmetic is simple. If the original weekly allowance were 100, the temporary bump took it to 150\. On September 14 the permanent level becomes 125.

That is a promo-versus-baseline split. A lab can tell paying customers, honestly, that the long-term cap is 25 percent higher than the old standard. Those same customers, if they built a week of work around the 50 percent bump, will feel a 17 percent squeeze when the bump ends. Both statements use real percentages. They just start from different floors.

Anthropic did not land that message on the first try. The company deleted an earlier thread on X and posted a clarification that admits the 17 percent cut versus current levels. I like the correction more than the first post. If you sell a coding agent by the week, people will compare next week's budget to this week's budget, not to a number from before the promo.

The weekly allowance also does not map to a fixed prompt count. Usage moves with conversation length, model choice, tool use, and effort level. A short "fix this type error" chat is cheap. A long session where Claude Code reads a repo, runs tools, and keeps a high effort setting will burn the week faster. A 17 percent change is not 17 percent fewer questions. It is 17 percent less of a mixed bag of model time, tools, and long threads.

Temporary limits are a loan. Permanent limits are the rent. A 50 percent bump is useful. It is also a trap if you hire against it, schedule a migration against it, or tell your team the tool just got half again as much room and then stop checking the calendar. September 14 is the day the loan ends and the new rent starts.

Anthropic says it is working on more visibility and control of usage. That is the right problem. If I cannot see which chats ate the week, a percentage change is just a surprise at the end of the week. Until that visibility is actually in the product, I would treat the weekly bar as a fuel gauge, not as a promise of a set number of prompts.

How I would plan the next two weeks is boring and specific. Through September 13, spend the extra 50 percent on work that is actually extra: a one-off refactor, a spike, a backlog burn-down. Do not start a habit that needs 150 if 125 is what you will have on September 14\. If your team is on Pro, Max, Team, or a seat-based Enterprise plan, put the date on the shared calendar. If a project needs a long, tool-heavy Claude Code session, run it before the bump ends or split it so the new 125-level week can finish it. After September 14, compare yourself to the old 100, not to the 150 you got used to. You will still have more room than the original standard. You will have less than this week's temporary high.

The close is a date. Until September 13 you have the promo. On September 14 you have 25 percent more than the old baseline and about 17 percent less than today. Plan your Claude Code week like that, and the cut will feel like a schedule, not a shock.
