OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra is no longer only a Pro and Enterprise story. Bleeping Computer reports the $20 ChatGPT Plus plan is starting to get Astra, with a gradual rollout that may appear in ChatGPT Work before it shows up in regular Chat.

That matches what OpenAI posted on X. The company said Astra is available to all Pro, Enterprise, and Business Premium users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and live in the API. It also said Plus and Business users may need a few days. In the reporter's Plus account, Astra already showed up in Work while the normal Chat model picker still lacked it. So if you pay for Plus and feel left out, check Work first.

Astra is OpenAI's new flagship. The company pitches it for computer use, browsing, coding, science, cybersecurity, and longer professional tasks. OpenAI also says it holds context better than GPT-5.6 Sol on complex work. Usage sits inside existing subscription limits. If you burn through them, you can buy credits. Free users still get GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5 for now, and OpenAI has not said when or whether Astra reaches free tier.

I care about this because the model that can drive a browser and keep a long task on track is the one that changes weekend projects. Booking forms, repo cleanup, spreadsheet cleanup, and research digests stop feeling like a pile of tabs. They start feeling like a supervised coworker. Supervised is the key word. Astra is powerful, and the last few weeks of OpenAI agent news are a reminder that powerful agents need tight scopes.

For Plus subscribers, the practical move is simple. Update the app, check Work, and try one real task you already understand. Compare the result with Sol on the same prompt. If Astra helps, great. If it wanders, tighten the brief. That is how you get value from a flagship model without treating it like magic.

One more tip for builders. When a lab rolls a frontier model into the mid-tier plan, usage limits become the real product surface. Watch how fast Astra burns your quota on computer-use jobs. Plan for credits if you lean on it for long sessions. And keep a fallback model ready when the queue is busy or the rollout has not reached your account yet.
